Breakdown in Middle East peace deal will leave households vulnerable to energy price rises

Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said: “The only people to benefit from a further breakdown in the Middle East peace deal are the price shock profiteers, the energy giants who posted £3 billion in profits from UK operations alone in the first three months of this year.

“Sadly, it becomes increasingly clear that energy customers’ bills rising reflect a geological and political reality: as long as we are hooked on a gas supply that responds to every foreign conflict and market shock, no ceasefire agreement will protect households from the next one.”
