Limiting heat pump subsidies would be ‘sledgehammer’ to sector, experts warn

Simon Francis, coordinator at End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said: “Cutting access to heat pump subsidies at the same time as potentially handing a £6 billion tax cut to oil and gas firms is a flagrant mismatch of priorities.

“When 12.1 million households are struggling with energy bills and nearly 5 million are in deep fuel poverty, the government should be standing up for people, not corporations.

“If Ministers are serious about reducing bills for good, they must keep their promise to invest in energy efficiency programmes and keep the £13.2 billion Warm Homes Plan fully funded, not raid the very schemes that deliver long term savings to households.”
