BP sees ‘exceptional’ oil trading result as Iran war sends crude costs soaring

Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said: “BP calling its Iran war windfall ‘exceptional’ tells you everything you need to know about who is winning and who is losing from this crisis.

“While households face a £480 hit to their finances and are cutting back on heating and food, oil giants are expecting huge trading profits.

“As energy bosses see the value of their shareholdings soar and investors prepare for bumper dividends, 83 per cent of the public are worried about the rising cost of energy bills.

“The case for keeping the Windfall Tax has never been stronger.

“Voters back it by more than two to one, and ministers must use the receipts to help the households paying the price for this crisis, not hand a tax break to the oil and gas industry.”
