Vapes to be put in plain packaging to protect children

Mark Oates, founder of We Vape, said: “The law is clear that vapes should not be sold to anyone under 18. The real problem is not a gap in regulation, but enforcement.

“Plain packaging and removing flavours from legal adult products won’t stop children getting hold of vapes from rogue traders or online, as they already do.

“Instead, it will make it harder for adult smokers to choose regulated, safer nicotine alternatives to smoking.

“If the logic is that legal products should be stripped of their branding because some children obtain them illegally, why isn’t alcohol put in plain packaging to stop underage drinking?

“We also know the more legal access is restricted to vapes, the bigger the dangerous, unregulated black market becomes, as we have seen with the turf wars raging in Australia.

“I encourage all vapers to respond to this consultation, which will affect their rights and access to harm reduction tools they rely on not to smoke.”
