Jamie Strachan, operations director at VPZ The Vaping Specialist, said: “This report underlines the urgent importance of effective smoking cessation strategies, and reducing smoking rates must remain a central public health priority.
“Independent public health bodies have consistently recognised that vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking and can play a role in helping smokers quit when combined with appropriate support.
“Smokers deserve access to accurate information and a range of regulated alternatives to help them stop smoking successfully.
“We support proportionate regulation, including measures in the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, that strengthens product standards and youth access controls, while ensuring adult smokers can continue to access regulated smoke-free alternatives.
“Strong product standards, responsible retailing, and clear guidance for adult smokers – alongside firm action to prevent youth uptake – are essential to maximising the public health opportunity presented by smoke-free alternatives.
“The biggest preventable cancer risk is smoking, and supporting smokers to quit must remain the top priority.”
