Jamie Strachan, operations director at VPZ | The Vaping Specialist, said: “Responsible vape retailers operate under strict safety standards, particularly regarding the storage and handling of lithium-ion batteries and vaping devices.
“As the UK’s largest vaping retailer, VPZ takes these responsibilities extremely seriously and adheres to robust safety procedures across all of our stores.
“In recent years there has also been growing concern across the sector about the rise of so-called “big puff” vapes, which often exceed UK regulatory limits.
“These products frequently bypass the strict testing, safety standards and oversight required under UK regulations, which raises legitimate concerns about product safety and battery quality.
“Vaping products sold legally in the UK must meet strict regulatory requirements, including limits on e-liquid capacity and nicotine strength.
“It is important that any discussion about vaping products or retail premises is informed by evidence and by the findings of the official investigation.
“We support a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident and will work constructively with regulators and authorities should any wider safety considerations arise.
“Our priority remains ensuring that adult smokers have access to regulated, responsible alternatives to cigarettes through safe and compliant retail environments.”
