“Smoking remains the UK’s number one preventable killer, responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and widespread chronic illness each year.
“As such, we regard vaping — when used responsibly, by adult smokers only — as a key harm-reduction tool, rather than a lifestyle choice.
“For many adult smokers, switching to vaping dramatically reduces exposure to the toxins in combustible tobacco.
“We welcome the government’s stated ambition to move from a “sickness to prevention” model.
“However, meaningful progress will only follow if the Tobacco and Vapes Bill recognises vaping’s role in harm reduction for existing smokers – without inadvertently penalising those trying to quit.”
