Ruth Wilkinson, head of policy and public affairs at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, said: “This Energy Security and Net Zero Committee is right to flag this urgent issue.
“But we must also recognise that the transition to a green economy and the pursuit of Net Zero may also introduce complex health, safety and wellbeing challenges that must not be overlooked.
“To deliver a safe and sustainable energy future, health and safety must be embedded in every stage of workforce planning, skills development and innovation.
“Government, industry and professional bodies must collaborate now to create a coordinated programme that equips workers to manage new risks effectively.
“Without this, the UK risks undermining its clean energy targets.
“Health and safety is not a barrier to progress – it is the foundation of decent work and social sustainability, which is needed for a successful green transition.”
