International Dog Day

In light of International Dog Day, Dr Hannah Wright – guide dog programme lead at Guide Dogs – believes there is still a lot of confusion surrounding the work that guide dogs undertake on a daily basis.

She said: “84 per cent of the British public agree we are a nation of dog lovers but loving dogs and understanding them aren’t always the same thing, and guide dogs are a brilliant example of that.

“In a recent survey, around 30 per cent of people mistakenly thought guide dogs can read traffic lights. It’s a myth that sums up just how much confusion there still is about the incredible work these dogs do every day.

“International Dog Day is the perfect excuse to find out how these amazing dogs help people with sight loss live life on their own terms.”
