Susanna Daniels, chief executive officer of Melanoma Focus, insists diagnosis and treatment needs to be prioritised with NHS cancer targets set to be missed by more than three years on current performance.
She said: “The likelihood of these missed targets will cause anxiety to anyone dealing with cancer.
“Some cancers, such as melanoma skin cancer, are highly treatable when diagnosed early, but they remain potentially deadly if detection is delayed. Early diagnosis and timely medical intervention are absolutely crucial to saving lives.
“While we fully understand the pressures facing the NHS, it is vital that the Government stands by its own National Cancer Plan and prioritises diagnosis and treatment.
“We urge urgent action and support for cancer services to ensure no one faces unnecessary delays that can cost them their chance of survival.”
