Biography
Jackie is professor of childhood eating behaviour at Aston University, and director of the Institute of Health and Neurodevelopment.
Her research maps the complex development of children’s feeding and eating behaviours and problems from a biopsychosocial perspective, often using longitudinal data.
Jackie's research is applied to policy and interventions which support the development of healthier eating behaviours.
She takes a team science approach to solve the complex problem of understanding and changing children’s eating behaviour.
Her studies use a variety of methodologies, require input from multidisciplinary teams and involve diverse participants including children with feeding problems, eating problems or obesity, school children, adolescents with type II diabetes, fetuses, pregnant women and mothers of neonates, families living with obesity, and professional stakeholders in clinical, government and third sector services working with infants, children, adolescents and families.
Much of Jackie's research has focused on the biological, affective and cognitive factors of parents and their children which influence parent-child interaction, particularly in the context of feeding and eating problems.
She has a particular interest in children’s fussy eating including poor fruit and vegetable acceptance, emotional eating, and childhood obesity.
