Eleanor Briggs, head of policy, public affairs and campaigns at Guide Dogs, said: “The findings of this research are alarming but unsurprising – people with sight loss tell us constantly that e-scooters are one of the biggest threats to their safety and independence on our streets.
“There’s desperate need for better public education about the law, joined-up enforcement, and a clear decision from government about the sale of private e-scooters.
“If private e-scooters are allowed to be sold, they should be properly controlled, with high-safety standards and regulation to stop them being ridden dangerously on pavements.
“If these controls are not implemented, they simply shouldn’t be sold in the first place.”
