Tessa Khan, founder and executive director of Uplift, said: “Yet again, Shell is profiting from conflict, while ordinary people face rising costs.
“These are unearned windfall profits handed to them by Trump’s war with Iran.
“At the same time, Shell is lobbying the UK Government to scrap the windfall tax, which would amount to an enormous tax break for the industry, all while households brace for higher bills. It’s not just tone-deaf, it’s indefensible.
“It is also pushing for approval of the Rosebank oil field, a project that won’t cut bills – it’s mostly oil for export – and would see the UK breach its climate commitments.
“Worse, it would keep us locked into volatile fossil fuels for years longer than necessary.
“This government must put the needs of the British public – for affordable energy and a safe climate – ahead of Shell’s endless desire to profit.
“That means helping more households switch from oil and gas to clean electricity to power our lives – whether that’s with solar panels, heat pumps or electric cars.
“Shell, which is right now cutting investment in renewables, clearly has no interest in that.”
