Almost two thirds of Britons would back smoke-free pub gardens – poll

Richard Begg, head of learning & development at VPZ | The Vaping Specialist, said: “We support proportionate measures to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke in public spaces, including smoke-free pub gardens and areas frequented by children and families.

“The public clearly recognises the harms associated with combustible tobacco smoke, and we support sensible measures that help create cleaner, healthier outdoor environments.

“However, it is important that policymakers continue to distinguish between smoking and vaping. Cigarettes produce harmful smoke through combustion, whereas vaping products do not involve combustion and are widely recognised as a significantly less harmful alternative for adult smokers.

“We would caution against introducing vape-free restrictions that risk undermining public understanding of the role vaping can play in helping smokers quit. Regulation should remain evidence-led and proportionate, with smoking cessation remaining the priority.

“As the Government reviews responses to its consultation, we believe policy must continue to support adult smokers moving away from combustible tobacco while balancing appropriate protections for the wider public.”
