Drinking and driving peaks in August as ‘temptation’ rises – analysis

With new research showing August as the worst month of the year for drink-drive crashes, Matt Lambert, chief executive officer of the Portman Group – the alcohol marketing self-regulator and responsibility body, says the industry strongly stands against drink driving.

He said: “Statistics such as these bring into sharp focus the reality of drink driving. Whilst overall drink driving rates are falling, any death or serious injury caused by drink driving is one too many.

“The alcohol industry strongly stands against drink driving, working in partnership to help raise awareness of its deadly consequences, whilst also expanding the availability of low and no alcohol alternatives, giving designated drivers more choice to stay safely within the law.

“Our YouGov research consistently shows that avoiding drink driving is the number one reason consumers choose low and no alcohol products and the summer is the perfect opportunity to embrace these options.”
