The latest prostate cancer statistics have left Amy Rylance, director of health services, equity and improvement at Prostate Cancer UK, shocked.
She said: “One in eight men will get prostate cancer and now one man is diagnosed every eight minutes.
“These shocking statistics from Macmillan Cancer Support highlight the importance of raising awareness and busting common myths that still persist around the disease.
“Prostate cancer often has no symptoms in its earlier, more treatable stages, so it’s crucial for a man to understand his own risk and not to wait for potential signs or symptoms.
“Another very common myth is that you need a rectal exam by your doctor to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. In fact, the best test for prostate cancer is a PSA blood test you can get free from your GP.
“Men over 50, Black men over 45, and men with a family history of prostate cancer are all at higher risk of getting the disease, and you can find out more about your risk and what you can do about it by taking Prostate Cancer UK’s 30 second online Risk Checker.”
