Biography

Hugh is principal, markets at Gold Standard Foundation.

He has over a decade of experience working on carbon markets, across roles in the UK Government and Gold Standard.

In the UK Government, Hugh served as head of international carbon markets in the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (now DESNZ), overseeing Article 6 negotiations, CORSIA strategy and investments in carbon funds.

Hugh also led EU and international climate change policy in HM Treasury (the UK’s finance ministry), in the run-up to negotiation of the Paris Agreement in 2015.

In Gold Standard, he has led the organisation’s stakeholder engagement and its work to shape and provide certification for new regulated markets: Article 6, CORSIA and national carbon pricing policies and frameworks across the world.
