Biography

Rosalind is vice president of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

She is an internationally recognised paediatrician and research leader whose work has transformed understanding and treatment of childhood respiratory disease.

Rosalind is vice dean (Research) of UCL’s faculty of population health sciences and honorary consultant respiratory paediatrician at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

From 2012–2022 she directed the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and in 2023 took on her role at the Academy of Medical Sciences, working closely with the Academy to advance its national child health agenda.

Rosalind's research has delivered major advances in the immunopathology of RSV bronchiolitis, providing some of the most detailed insights into viral–host interactions in infants.

She identified the role of human metapneumovirus in bronchiolitis and produced the first molecular evidence of a long term Pseudomonas aeruginosa outbreak in a cystic fibrosis centre, prompting global changes in infection control.

As coordinating editor of the Cochrane Cystic Fibrosis and Genetic Disorders Group, she has led influential systematic reviews that guide clinical practice worldwide.

A leading figure in paediatric medicines regulation, she chaired the paediatric medicines expert advisory group of the commission on human medicines and directed the NIHR medicines for children research network.

Her contributions have been recognised through numerous honours, including election to the Academy of Medical Sciences and a CBE for services to children’s medicines.
