Biography

Nikki is head of conservation at the Born Free Foundation.

She joined the conservation department of the UK-based wildlife charity in 2018 and in her current role manages a global team of 32 across four countries and three continents.

The focus is on the protection of hero species – including big cats, great apes, and large herbivores – via landscape-scale, holistic and evidence-based conservation programmes in Cameroon, India and Kenya.

Nikki trained as a zoologist and gained a PhD in evolutionary ecology at Southampton University.

She subsequently lived and worked in Central Africa for the best part of 15 years, managing projects and teams, fundraising, managing budgets and doing research on chimpanzee and gorilla socioecology and conservation in Congo, Gabon, and Cameroon.
