# Tories plan ‘bonfire’ of red tape in bid to speed up development – Griffith

By Simon Francis — 2026-10-05

Commenting on plans to axe the Future Homes Standard which is designed to ensure every new home is cheaper to run, End Fuel Poverty Coalition coordinator, Simon Francis says this decision will only lead to higher prices for families.

He said: “After years of work across different governments to develop the Future Homes Standard, it is hard to understand why anyone would tear up regulations designed to stop another generation of cold, damp homes being built.

“We are still trying to retrofit the poor quality housing that has hurt so many households. Solar panels and heat pumps in every new home are a step in the right direction, and if anything the rules should go further.

“Scrapping the rules may let profiteering developers build homes more cheaply, but the families who move in will pay for it through higher bills.”
