# Aberdeen MSP sends P45 to Starmer over predicted loss of oil and gas jobs

By Simon Francis — 2025-12-23

Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said: “Since 2020, energy giants have made more than £125bn in profit on their UK operations and there is no sign of profits declining as households struggle with a fifth winter of high energy bills.

“It would be perverse to axe the Energy Profits Levy while people still need help to pay their heating costs, get out of energy debt and upgrade their homes.

“But given that the North Sea will naturally run out of gas and the country will become more reliant on expensive imports, it is vital that workers and communities affected by the changing energy mix are properly supported.

“The millions of households who will still be struggling with the cost of energy need further bold action from governments in Westminster and Holyrood in reform of energy pricing, targeting energy bill support at those who need it, and in creating an ambitious plan to upgrade cold, damp homes.”
