# Offshore wind auction to attract £3.4bn of private investment, Government says

By Simon Francis — 2026-01-15

Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said: “Unlocking billions in private investment for renewable supply chains can support skilled jobs while strengthening Britain’s energy security.

“But that investment must come with firm safeguards for the public.

“Households cannot be asked to underwrite infrastructure while the energy industry walks away with huge profits.

“If private capital is going to play a major role, there must be full transparency over returns, limits on excess profits and electricity pricing reform to ensure savings from clean power flow straight through to bills.

“Investment should rebuild supply chains and cut costs for families, not repeat the mistakes of the fossil fuel era.”
