# Summer 2026 is UK’s warmest since records began

By Simon Francis — 2026-09-01

With the UK’s summer of 2026 the warmest since records began, Simon Francis – coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition – says rising temperatures are a big problem.

He said: “Rising temperatures pose a serious health risk. Millions of adults are at risk of being made unwell by overheating in their homes, most of them in poorly ventilated properties with no affordable way to keep cool.

“With energy costs still increasing, people are unable to stay cool in the summer, just as much as they struggle to stay warm in winter. Switching on a fan or running air conditioning is simply not an option for some people already in debt to their supplier.

“To make matters worse, experts predict that the poorest neighbourhoods are seven times more likely to be vulnerable to overheating during periods of extremely high temperatures.

“It is a disgrace that not only are the fossil fuel giants contributing to the climate crisis, but they are also profiting from the increased energy prices households have to pay to keep homes cool in the summer.”
