# Irish government approves plans to ban disposable vapes and regulate future nicotine products

By Richard Crosby — 2025-11-19

Richard Crosby, nicotine advocate and director of Considerate Pouchers UK, said: “We have long campaigned for age restrictions and are pleased the Irish Government has followed our recommendation.

“However, there must be caution over advertising bans that prevent adult consumers seeing nicotine pouches in shops.

“This prevents education around harm reduction and stops many smokers from discovering a less harmful alternative.

“Access to a reasonable variety of flavours must also be ensured, as they play a crucial role in helping people make the switch.

“While we agree nicotine pouches should be regulated and restricted to over-18s everywhere, heavy-handed bans ignore their value.

“These products are an increasingly popular and effective option for smokers trying to quit and deserve recognition as part of the harm reduction toolkit.

“A balanced, evidence-led approach means strong youth protection while keeping proven quitting tools accessible for adult smokers. Blunt bans risk more harm than good.”
