# Analysis reveals top preventable cancer causes in UK

Mark Oates, founder of consumer campaign group We Vape, said: “Vaping is far safer than smoking and the most effective way to quit, so it is tragic people still die from cigarette consumption when we know how to help them stop.

“It is ironic the World Health Organisation’s own experts are demanding prevention strategies, while calling on countries to ban vaping, the very thing that would provide the solution they say they want.

“Nicotine pouches are also emerging as a clean, discreet way for adults to stay off cigarettes, yet governments across Europe are attacking them, as they have done with vaping, while refusing to set sensible legislation like strength limits of 20mgs.

“Because of this demonising of a harm reduction product, more than half of smokers in England now think vaping is as bad for you or worse than cigarettes, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

“That is stopping people making the switch, and killing them.

“Countries like Sweden, however, which promote these safer products, have all but eradicated smoking and seen a huge reduction in related, often terminal, illness.

“We can achieve a world free from cigarettes, with millions of lives extended and saved, if the methods needed, like vaping, are allowed to flourish under safe regulation.

“The alternative is undermining them, and accepting millions of avoidable deaths.”
