Mark Oates, founder of consumer campaign group We Vape, said: “Smoking is a major risk factor for stroke, which is why helping people quit matters so much.

“Vaping is now the most effective tool we have to help smokers stop, yet public messaging still treats it the same as smoking.

“For smokers, switching completely to vaping is far less harmful than continuing to smoke, and ignoring that risks undermining stroke prevention.”
