# Warner Bros restarts talks with Paramount Skydance amid takeover battle

By Dan Coatsworth — 2026-02-17

Dan Coatsworth, head of markets at AJ Bell, said: “Warner Bros Discovery is making investors wait until the end credits to discover the company’s destiny.

“Both Paramount and Netflix have been doing the takeover dance, but the endless twists and turns have kept the audience guessing as to who will win the prize, if anyone at all.

“Takeover discussions can’t go on indefinitely and at some point, bidders must table their best offer or walk away.

“Paramount has now been given notice that it has one week to dig as deep as it can or go away.

“Warner Bros must be confident that Paramount has scope to find a little bit more money.

“After all, it has a rich back catalogue and enviable production facilities that could help turbocharge the suitor in the cut-throat world of content.

“Despite Paramount still being in the race, it looks like Netflix remains the target’s favourite, even though questions remain over whether it will secure regulatory approval.

“It’s in the best interests of shareholders for the board to get the highest possible price.

“However, the board must also consider who it thinks is the most appropriate owner for the long term, rather than simply being guided by dollar signs.

“On this basis, Warner has already picked its team and extra money from Paramount might still not be enough to switch allegiance.”
