# Starmer tells son how ‘proud’ he is of him but acknowledges pressure he faces

Karen Tyrell, chief executive officer of the charity Drinkaware, said: “The government’s new men’s health strategy is an important step forward and it is promising to see harmful alcohol use featured prominently.

“Men’s health has been overlooked for far too long.

“Our research shows that one in five men in England drink above the Chief Medical Officers’ guidelines of 14 units a week and would benefit from greater support.

“Drinkaware provides the resources and tools to help meet that need, including our Drinking Check, which reaches men where they are.

“The simple, three-minute quiz helps men understand how their drinking may be affecting their health and offers non-judgemental advice on how to cut back if they need to.

“Since 2023, around a million men have completed the Drinking Check.

“We look forward to working with government and our partners to help deliver this strategy and ensure men get the support they need and deserve.”
