# Clearer, more consistent alcohol labelling urged

By Karen Tyrell — 2026-06-01

Karen Tyrell, chief executive of Drinkaware, said: “Reducing alcohol-related harm is complex, and no single approach works in isolation. There is strong public appetite for clearer, more consistent labelling and we know it is most effective when it is simple, non-judgmental and prompts people to take action.

“For 20 years, Drinkaware has been part of the solution on alcohol labelling. We are already reaching millions of people with tools and advice to help them better understand and moderate their drinking, with 21% of UK adults seeing or hearing information about the health risks of alcohol from us in the past year, second only to the NHS (27%).

“As the Government looks to deliver its 10-year health plan, we are ready to play our part – working in partnership to scale what already exists, test what works in the real world, and ensure labelling plays its full role in informing consumers, supporting early intervention and reducing alcohol harm.”
