# Some ‘super contributor’ entrepreneurs putting over £300,000 into pensions

By Andrew Prosser — 2026-05-19

Andrew Prosser, head of investments at InvestEngine, said: “While the HMRC figures highlight a small proportion of self-employed workers who have been able to save a significant amount into their pension, for the vast majority this is not the case.

“According to the Pensions Commission, just 4% of wholly self-employed workers are saving for retirement. With this group not benefitting from a workplace pension, greater support and education is essential to help millions avoid a pension shortfall and build a more resilient financial future.

“SIPPs are often underutilised but offer flexibility and a wide range of investment choices, enabling individuals to save for the future in a tax efficient way. SIPPs must be a core focus of the UK Retail Investment Campaign this year as the Government and industry work to build people’s knowledge of, and confidence with, investment solutions.”
