# Three in 10 investors ‘contributing more despite market uncertainties’

By Andrew Prosser — 2026-04-01

Andrew Prosser, head of investments at InvestEngine, said: “These figures are encouraging and suggest many investors understand that short-term market dips are simply part of long-term investing.

“Uncertain periods like this can make it tempting for investors to scale back investing or step away altogether.

“We’ve seen a fall of around six per cent in global equities in the last few weeks, which may feel uncomfortable, but is not extraordinary.

“History has repeatedly shown us that some of the strongest gains often immediately follow periods of volatility.

“Those who uninvest at this point are the ones who stand to lose out the most from any rebound.

“Our own analysis of government ISA data underlines the long-term benefits of staying invested.

“The top 25 stocks and shares ISAs now have a total of £275 million in them, compared to just £16 million for the top cash ISAs.

“While there will have been ups and downs along the way, those who have consistently invested their full ISA allowance since 1999 are now significantly better off than those who relied on cash savings – reinforcing the fact that long-term investing rewards those who stay the course.

“More broadly, it’s positive to see many planning to invest more in the coming months.

“The country’s investment culture has lagged behind others for too long, and with policymakers focused on increasing participation, the numbers suggest growing confidence among the public in retail investing.

“However, there is still more to be done to bring new investors into the market.

“Our own research found factors such as ease of use and low fees remain key considerations for people before taking up investing, and should be central to any thinking about how to increase participation further.”
