Sasha Misra, head of communications, public affairs and policy at Help for Heroes, said: “Too many veterans are facing the injustice of having to fight the system to access the compensation and benefits they deserve.

“Today’s Autumn Budget was a key moment for government to show its commitment to veterans and remove those barriers.

“Fair support should be there for all injuries and illnesses caused by military service, and access to it should be consistent no matter where a veteran lives across the United Kingdom.

“We have evidence-led policy recommendations that would address the concerns of veterans and remove unnecessary burden across government.

“We’ll be reviewing today’s announcements closely and remain committed to working with policymakers to ensure the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant are upheld.”
