# Some pension savers ‘expect to cut contributions after salary sacrifice changes’

By Helen Morrissey — 2026-01-07

Helen Morrissey, head of retirement analysis at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: “It’s not surprising to see some people are looking to boost contributions to their pensions to make the most of salary sacrifice arrangements as they currently stand.

“Salary sacrifice has been a great way of helping people build their retirement resilience.

“However, once the reforms come in the concern is that we will see people decide to cut back on these contributions and this is not good news for people’s retirement resilience.

“The latest data from HL’s Savings and Resilience Barometer shows that just 43 per cent of households are on track for an adequate retirement income and so there is still much work to do to help people retire well.”
