# Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey says weaker sales dragged by budget uncertainty

By Aarin Chiekrie — 2025-11-12

Aarin Chiekrie, equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: “Taylor Wimpey’s sales momentum slowed in the third quarter, as uncertainty ahead of Rachel Reeves’ Budget later this month has been weighing on the housebuilding market.

“Unsurprisingly, buyers are holding off from signing on the dotted line in case the Chancellor’s announcement brings beneficial tax changes to property buying.

“With Christmas hot on the heels of this delayed Budget, disincentivising people to move during the festive period, there’s unlikely to be much of a pick-up in sales activity until the new year.

“UK wages are still growing in real terms, albeit slowly, and expectations for a December interest rate cut have risen, which is improving the outlook for buyer affordability.

“House prices are also holding firm and build cost inflation remains at a manageable low single-digit percentage.

“That bodes well heading into 2026 and has given management the confidence to stand firm on its full-year guidance, expecting to complete between 10,400-10,800 new homes and generate around £424m of operating profit.”
