# Most drivers have not experienced ‘the joy’ of UK’s road trip routes – survey

By Rachel Mumford — 2026-08-10

As new research has found that many road trips in the UK, including the North Coast 500, the Giant’s Causeway coastal route, and the Northumberland 250, remain undiscovered by many motorists, Rachel Mumford – travel expert and spokesperson for KAYAK – believe that these lesser-known routes could hold appeal for younger travellers.

She said: “KAYAK’s What the Future travel report found that 71 per cent of Gen Z and 75 per cent of Millennials prefer destinations that feel undiscovered and haven’t appeared on their social feeds yet.

“It’s a useful indication that younger travellers are increasingly looking beyond familiar hotspots for more authentic experiences – and that the UK’s lesser-known routes could hold particular appeal.”
