# Oil prices surpass 100 dollars a barrel after US strikes on Iranian tankers

Chris Cheverall, head of UK at CMC Markets, said: “The conflict has now been disrupting energy markets for more than six months, and every fresh escalation makes it harder for investors to keep treating the inflation impact as temporary.

“Oil above $100 starts to change the conversation. At these levels, businesses are not just watching the price of crude, they are having to think about margins, transport costs and how much of that pressure they can realistically pass on.

“This comes at a difficult time for the UK, with inflation already back at 2.9 per cent and the Bank of England meeting again next week. $100 oil does not automatically mean higher rates, but it makes the argument for looking through the energy shock increasingly difficult if the pressure continues.”
