# Boss of oil giant questions future UK investment if North Sea drilling is denied

Tessa Khan, executive director of Uplift, says “Rosebank is a bad deal for Britain” after oil company Equinor questioned its future UK investment if the Government fails to approve drilling at new oil and gas fields in the North Sea.

She said: “Rosebank won’t cut our bills – it’s overwhelmingly oil for export – but it will make Equinor and its part-owner, the Norwegian government, richer, while Britain is left with high energy bills and a declining workforce. Rosebank is a bad deal for Britain.

“Labour’s climate credibility is also on the line: approving a field on the scale of Rosebank is wholly incompatible with our climate commitments – as well as with Burnham’s promise to lower bills, reindustrialise regions and take back public control.

“The Prime Minister needs to stick to his word, ignore the bullying of profiteering foreign oil firms and put ordinary Brits first – the billpayers and businesses getting ripped off, the oil workers waiting for a plan to build our clean energy future, and the firemen, farmers and workers facing increasingly extreme weather.”
