# ‘Historic moment’ as smoking Bill clears Parliament

Richard Begg, head of learning and development at VPZ | The Vaping Specialist, said: “VPZ supports action to reduce smoking and prevent youth uptake, but this legislation risks missing the mark if it fails to properly recognise the role vaping plays in helping adult smokers quit.

“Millions of people in the UK have successfully moved away from cigarettes using vaping products.

“Overly restrictive measures – particularly on flavours and product availability – could unintentionally drive former smokers back to tobacco or into unregulated markets.

“It is critical that policymakers maintain a clear distinction between combustible tobacco, and safer alternatives like vaping.

“We share the goal of a smoke-free future, but that goal will only be achieved if adult smokers continue to have access to effective, regulated alternatives.

“The focus must remain on harm reduction, not one-size-fits-all restrictions.

“VPZ will continue to operate to the highest standards of responsible retailing and looks forward to working with government to ensure the final regulations strike the right balance.”
