# Former politician and bestselling novelist Jeffrey Archer dies suddenly aged 86

By Chiara De Biase — 2026-10-06

Following the death of author Jeffrey Archer at age 86, Chiara De Biase, director of fundraising and health strategy at Prostate Cancer UK, urges anyone at higher risk of the disease to see their GP.

She said: “We’re saddened to hear of the passing of Jeffrey Archer and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“A bestselling author and former MP, in his later years Jeffrey was also an advocate of Prostate Cancer UK, raising funds for groundbreaking research and speaking openly about his treatment for the disease to help raise national awareness.

“The earlier you find prostate cancer, the easier it is to treat, but often the disease has no symptoms in it’s early stages. So as Jeffrey said on BBC Breakfast just last week, if you are a man at higher risk, if you are over 50 or a Black man or have a family history of the disease, speak to your GP about if a simple blood test to check for signs of prostate cancer is the right choice for you.

“And for any man worried about their risk, take our 30 second online risk checker or visit the Prostate Cancer UK website for more information and support.”
