# AI is set to ‘transform’ financial services by 2030, review finds

By Holly Mackay — 2026-07-06

Holly Mackay, founder and chief executive officer of Boring Money, said: “AI is undoubtedly changing how consumers seek out advice when it comes to their finances, but it is still playing a support role only. We know that trust is rising – in 2024 just 11 per cent of investors trusted AI but this has risen to 21 per cent in 2026.

“Consumers are using AI for information today but not often as a single source which people then act upon. Relatively low trust means that other sources including financial advisers, friends and family, comparison websites and investors’ own personal Excel spreadsheets are reported to be more useful today.

“Over the next two to three years I anticipate the role of AI will move from the support act validator to the main act informer, but trust needs to build first for this to happen.

“Boring Money research shows the most common tasks investors use AI for today are researching or comparing investment options (38 per cent), understanding a financial product or investment (37 per cent) and then getting a second opinion on advice already received (26 per cent).”
