# 77% of homeowners ‘think EPC rating will be important when moving home’

David Fell, lead analyst at Hamptons, said: “Rising energy bills have made buyers keener than ever to understand how much it costs to run a home.

“Buyers increasingly look for a minimum of a EPC C rating, which typically means the basics have all been done: the home is well-insulated, has a modern boiler, and double glazing.

“If homes don’t offer this, buyers are looking to factor in the costs required to achieve it.

“Around 44% of homes recorded an improvement in their EPC rating compared with their previous assessment.

“And it’s owners of older homes who have been leading improvements in energy efficiency.

“Most new homes have come with an EPC A–B rating for at least two decades now, but the bar is steadily being raised by owners of older homes.”

“While these homes will never be as energy-efficient as newer ones, E and F ratings are typically being turned into Cs and Ds without spending huge amounts.

“But for them to achieve an A or B rating could easily require two or three times the investment.”
