# Dementia plan letter signed by Jon Snow and ‘demanding better’ handed to No 10

By Dr Sonya Miller — 2026-09-01

A new dementia plan letter, signed by broadcaster and dementia patient Jon Snow, and actors Sir Jonathan Pryce, Dame Meera Syal, Suranne Jones and Vicky McClure – all Alzheimer’s Society ambassadors – calls for better access to early and accurate diagnosis of the disease.

It comes as research suggests that many patients are facing long waits for a diagnosis, with just under half (45 per cent) of carers surveyed claiming their patients had waited more than six months. Dr Sonya Miller, medical director at TauRx Therapeutics Management believes a governmental and societal shift is required to see widespread change.

She said: “It is well acknowledged that dementia is one of the world’s greatest unmet medical needs, with someone somewhere developing dementia every three seconds.

“The letter presented to Downing Street shines a light on the enormity of the role and burden placed on carers of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

“How do we help them? By ensuring national plans and services can deliver timely and compassionate diagnosis and support every step of the way. This requires a governmental and societal shift as this disease can affect every one of us, as illustrated by it being the leading cause of death in the UK.”
