# Average UK house price fell to six-month low in December, says Halifax

Aneisha Beveridge, research director at Hamptons and Connells Group, said: “2025 was a fairly modest year for house price growth, with signs of weakening as the year progressed.

“The latest data is yet another reminder of how the Budget tempered the market, with fears of tax rises filtering into what people were prepared to pay for their home.

“However, there are signs of a more promising start to 2026.

“Falling mortgage rates, and particularly the return of sub 3.5 per cent deals for buyers with larger deposits, should boost affordability and create room for a little more price growth this year.”
